This course has been developed to familiarize the apprentice with basic site and building layout requirements, proper excavation requirements and procedures. The apprentice will develop in the knowledge of the types of residential footings and types and quantities of concrete required, foundation wall types and size requirements, and of the design specifications of Preserved Wood Foundations (PWF) according to CSA and the Canadian Wood Council. It will familiarize the apprentice with perimeter and interior soil drainage requirements and methods; the purpose, requirements, and installation of sill plates and with the types, sizes, and installation practices of support columns. CRP 201N will develop the apprentice knowledge of the types of floor beams, installation practices, and beam span tables; components of a floor system and of floor joists span tables and skill in the layout and installation of the floor frame. Terminology and O.B.C.'s table requirements and skill in the layout and construction of framed walls will be discussed. The apprentice will also develop knowledge and skill in the function and installation of ceiling joists; layout, construction, and installation of all types of trusses; layout, cutting, and installation of different types of equal and unequal pitch hip and gable roofs; various types of exterior finishing materials; interior finish components and skill in the application of related materials as well as changes in the O.B.C. with regards to energy-efficiency and ventilation requirements and skill in the application of these changes.
