Students study applications and operations of standard safety procedures, health and safety and professional conduct. The carpentry trade is composed of a large variety of the materials. This course will study the most common types applied in new and reno construction jobs. There are different cuts and dimensions of lumber used in carpentry; these are studied to explain variations in construction techniques. The student will be presented with information for the care and safe use of hand, portable and stationary power tools including saws, jointers, planners, routers, biscuit joiners, and drills. Students will study the production and physical characteristics of materials used in construction including solid and manufactured lumber products, fasteners and adhesives.
