This course will combine theory and applied skills to help prepare students to work with offenders in a custodial environment. Types of institutions and methods of supervision including direct and indirect supervision will be compared. Inmate groups including female offenders, FNMI offenders, offenders with mental illness and other diverse groups of offenders will be examined. Best practices will be outlined regarding security, daily routines, and policy and procedures common to institutional settings.
