This course is a study and application of proper safety & working procedures. This shall include hand tool safety, power equipment safety, proper hoist/lifting procedures, use of proper clothing with foot and eye protective care. Also included is the safe handling and storage of chemicals including fire prevention/extinguishing and environmental hazards. Work place regulations relating to OHSA and WHMIS will be stressed. Proper and safe use of oxy-acetylene welding/cutting equipment will be discussed. Basic air braking systems used in medium and heavy duty trucks, school and commercial coach buses will be discussed extensively. Laboratory sessions involve on-vehicle brake inspecting and servicing of components using proper procedures with safety being the main concern.
