First in a series of 3 courses, students will discover vocabulary, protocols for specialty interpreting and develop prediction skills related to various interpreting situations and environments. Settings will begin with those most likely where the interpreter could manage the turn taking and where content/emotion may or may not be an issue. Examples include team interpreting situations such as board meetings, workshops, one-on-one appointments in the medical, employment, educational, social services and mental health service areas. Students will have the opportunity to apply this information to their 2 week placement this semester.
