This course is designed to continue to provide the student with the theory and techniques of the interpreting process. Rationale for and methods of skill building will continue to be covered. Activities will increase in complexity and duration towards the development of techniques for coping with technical issues such as source language that is rapid and complex and knowing how and when to adjust decalage (processing time). Students will progress from video tape samples to live speakers and will move from interpreting dialogues to monologues. Practice samples will move the student through increasingly difficult varieties of consecutive interpreting. Emphasis will be on interpretation in teams as well as solo interpretation. Students will have the opportunity to practice self-assessment and employ strategies for self-improvement during the scheduled lab time.
