This course will revisit in more detail issues raised in the Introduction To The Interpreting Profession course. Students will investigate issues such as:, training and employment opportunities, occupational health and safety, professional qualifications (including appropriateness when accepting assignments) and testing, bi-modality of service (manual/oral), Deaf/hearing teams, the AVLIC Long Range Plan, and the relationship with professionals such as spoken language interpreters and note takers. Students will have the opportunity to expand their professional writing skills by taking part in a class produced newsletter. Further opportunities exist to participate in scheduled volunteer activities at the local Deaf service and Interpreter service agencies.
