This course examines historical and present day profiles of the interpreting profession. Topics covered will include four generic models of interpreting, models of the interpreting process, who should and shouldn't attempt to interpret, which mode of services is offered by interpreters (oral, tactile, manual). Professional associations and related organizations, both Deaf and non-Deaf, will be explored to develop a resource base as well as begin to examine issues facing the profession
