Dealing with major social and cultural themes, this course will provide students with the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the meaning of freedoms, rights, and participation in community and public life. The impact of cultural and social themes and the importance they play in the visual and creative arts in human affairs will be explored. Students will study the social issues affecting a city and analyze both the public and government response. Students will gain an awareness of his or her place in contemporary North American culture and society though a mandatory multi-day field study of non-profit and charitable organizations in the United States that requires additional fees and appropriate international travel documentation.
