Who would have thought rappelling down 170 feet from the top of the historic CIBC building in downtown Windsor could raise awareness and funds for cancer patients in the community?

On Saturday, June 22, a group of over 90 people from Windsor-Essex rappeled down in one of the tallest buildings in the city to take part in a fundraising campaign called "Show Us Your Brave" organized by the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation (WCCF).

The fundraising efforts raised over $300,000 to ensure that those in need receive world-class treatment. The campaign aimed to support the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, which received over 110,000 visits last year.

This is a pioneering event of the WCCF and according to Marketing Manager Brandy Coulsey, the support of the community has brought immense success to the event.

"This is a culmination of our ‘Show Us Your Brave' campaign," Coulsey said. "Everyone's so excited and everyone's got the fun costumes and coming together as a community is really beautiful. The number of people who said they wanted to do it again and they want to add more to our campaign, we're just so thankful."

The City of Windsor proclaimed June 22 as Brave Day due to the community's commitment to raise funds and awareness of cancer. St. Clair College and the St. Clair College Alumni Association couldn't be more proud to sponsor the event.

Melissa Kakuk, coordinator of the Community and Justice Services program at St. Clair College, wore her St. Clair College shirt proudly while rappelling the building.

"This was an awesome experience supporting the great cause," Kakuk said.
