A new Community Promenade welcoming visitors at the College’s Cabana Road entrance was unveiled Tuesday and named for President Patti France.
The Dr. Patti France Community Promenade was publicly announced Tuesday by the College’s Board of Governors.
Board Chair Gid Sovran surprised President France during the last board meeting before the summer break with a concept drawing of the area. He credited the president for bringing the College into a surplus position during her tenure and for her strong leadership as she navigated unchartered waters during the pandemic.
“She has done a lot of good things in the six years I’ve been on the board,” Sovran said.
President France also recently received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Assumption University for her commitment to higher education in Windsor-Essex.
The Dr. Patti France Community Promenade is located at the north gate of the College’s Windsor campus. An arched monolith will feature a large golden Griffin, the College’s signature symbol, at the start of the promenade. The area will have seating and landscaping throughout and a walkway leading into the College grounds.
The area was created as part of the Campus Beautification project and designed by ROA Architecture in Chatham. Contractor Oscar Construction expects to have it completed in August.
