Health Occupations Aptitude Examination (HOAE) | St. Clair College
Due to COVID-19, the use of the Health Occupations Aptitude Examination (HOAE) for the Fall 2021 Admissions Cycle is currently being reviewed.  We will update this information prior to the end of October 2020.

The Health Occupations Aptitude Exam (HOAE) is a computer based preadmission test for applicants to the following programs:

Applicants must complete the HOAE test as part of the application process. Your HOAE test score will be combined with your academic accomplishments to determine an overall score that is used for admissions. You can only write the HOAE exam once per application cycle.


The test will be conducted on a computer and will take approximately 2 hours. The test consists of the following components:

  • Academic Aptitude (75 questions).
  • Spelling (45 questions).
  • Reading Comprehension (35 questions).
  • Information in the Natural Sciences (60 questions).
  • Vocational Adjustment Index (90 questions).

Your application for this program must be completed before February 1 through Once St. Clair College receives your application you will receive an "acknowledgement letter" that includes details about the test and forms to fill out and return to St. Clair College.

The last date to write the HOAE test for the September 2020 intake is February 29, 2020.


In your Acknowledgement email, you would have received instructions on how to book your test.

To gain access to the testing session candidates must:

  1. Have/know their OCAS application number
  2. Bring photo identification
