"Resoration Smile"
(Windsor, Ontario) – For the fourth year, the Essex County Dental Society held a free dental clinic at St. Clair College in the Dental Clinic located on the first floor of the Anthony P. Toldo Centre for Applied Health Sciences at the South Windsor campus.
The project called "Restoration Smile", is a one day event designed to promote oral health in the community and provide basic restorative and surgical services for those people who might not otherwise have access to those services.
Essex County Dental Society Organizer, Dr. Matthew Duronio, says it is something he is thrilled to be part of. "Sometimes these services may be outside the reach of some people in the community and the Dental Society wanted the chance to assist them, says Duronio. "This initiative is an important step in the promotion of good oral health care in our community."
15 dentists were at our Dental Clinic on campus performing procedures for 30 plus patients. The Dental Society agreed that holding the event at St. Clair College provided the perfect venue to see this number of patients. "Patients were chosen to participate based on their affiliation with the St. Clair College Dental Clinic," says Duronio "Their records were reviewed and patients were prioritized by their needs".
The St. Clair College Dental Clinic operates September to the mid-June for dental assessments and dental hygiene care. The restorative clinics (for fillings) are limited and run February to mid-June. For this reason "Restoration Smile" was a great opportunity for the College Dental students to gain experience with a variety of procedures.
