Women's Soccer Defeat Lambton

(Sarnia, Ontario) - The St. Clair women's soccer team earned an easy win over the Lambton Lions on the road in Sarnia on Saturday afternoon by a score of 8-1.

Tira Copeland (Windsor; Holy Names) and Cassandra Rose-Medeiros (London; John Paul II) led the way with 3 goals each. Ryan Morneau (Windsor; L’Essor) and Aleah Berenz (Belle River; St. Anne’s) rounded out the scoring with 1 goal each.

With the win the Saints improved to 2-2-1 on the season while Lambton fell to 0-5.

St. Clair Men's Soccer Narrowly Defeat Lambton

(Sarnia, Ontario) - The St. Clair men's soccer team earned a tough win over the Lambton Lions on the road in Sarnia on Saturday afternoon by a score of 2-1.

Petar Stevkovski (Windsor; Riverside) put the Saints up heading into halftime. Lambton scored late in the second half to tie the match but St. Clair responded quickly after that on a penalty kick by Bastien Aquilera (Chile) and held on for the win.

With the win the Saints improved to 2-3 on the season while Lambton fell to 0-5.

St. Clair College Baseball Split in Battle for 1st Place

(Etobicoke, Ontario) - Etobicoke, ON – In a tie for 1st Place in the OCAA standings the St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team split a doubleheader with Humber College Saturday afternoon at Connorvale Park in Etobicoke. The Saints won the opening game 3-2 before losing 6-5 in 9 innings in the finale. The teams had identical 6-2 records coming into the matchup and they exited the day still tied at 7-3 atop the OCAA standings.

In the opening game St. Clair took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but fell behind 2-1 after the second inning. However, the Saints put up a two runs in the fourth inning and then held on holding Humber scoreless for the remainder of the game. Miguel Cienfuegos (Laval, QC) took the win for St. Clair working the first 4 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 3 batters. Michael Beale (Windsor, ON/WF Herman) got the save in relief throwing the final three innings surrendering 2 hits and a walk to go with a strikeout. Kevin Dion (Newmarket, ON) and Garik Godard (Belle River, ON/Belle River) each had a pair of hits for the Saints with both scoring a run in the win.

In game two Humber scored a single run in four of the first five innings to lead 4-0 entering the 6th inning. But St. Clair roared back scoring 5 runs in the 6th and took a 1-run lead to the 7th inning. Humber scored the equalizer in the 7th which forced extra innings for the second time this season between the teams which would be settled via International tie-breaker.

St. Clair College Softball Move to 12-2 on Season

(Windsor, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Women’s Softball team swept another doubleheader at Mic Mac Park with 8-1 and 10-0 wins over Seneca College (North York) on Saturday. The Saints now lead the OCAA standings with a 12-2 record as they move past the halfway point of the season.

Saints pitcher Olivia Elliott (Oakville, ON) picked up wins in both games moving her record to 6-2 on the season. In the opener Elliott pitched 3 innings and gave up only 2 hits while striking out 5 batters. The offense was alive early with 2 runs in the first inning and a 6-spot in the second inning. St. Clair coasted from that point and only gave a single run to Seneca in the last inning. Kim Moroun (Belle River, ON/Belle River), Jordan Taylor (Lasalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) and Michaela Rilett (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) each had 2 hits for the Saints with Taylor adding 2 RBI’s.

Elliott picked up her 2nd win of the day in 4 innings of work but surrendered only 1 walk with no hits and 4 strikeouts. Rilett paced the Saints 13-hit attack with 3 by herself including 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s. St. Clair led 5-0 after three innings and put up 5 runs in the 5th for the mercy shortened victory.

St. Clair College Softball Finish Home Weekend with Humber Split

(Windsor, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Women’s Softball team split a pair of games with Humber College (Etobicoke) Sunday afternoon at Mic Mac Park winning 7-6 and losing 9-3. The Saints still sit in first place in the OCAA standings with a 13-3 record.

Saints pitcher Olivia Elliott (Oakville, ON) earned the victory in the opener starting and finishing the game and throwing a total of 6 2/3 innings while giving up 3 runs on 8 hits to go with 7 strikeouts. St. Clair was ahead 5-1 after the 4th inning and added singles in the 5th and 6th to outlast Humber who were within a run in the 7th. But the visitors stranded the tying run at second base. St. Clair centerfielder Megan Lumley (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) had a big game with a 3-run homer as part of her 3 hits and 4 RBI’s. Shortstop Michaela Rilett (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) also had 3 hits including a double for the Saints.

St. Clair starter Sara Stiller (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) was tagged with the loss in the second game surrendering 7 runs on 9 hits but struck out 4 batters over 3 innings. Rookie pitcher Hannah DesRosiers (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) threw well in relief even though the damage was done after Humber went ahead 7-2 entering the bottom of the 3rd inning. First baseman Kim Moroun (Belle River, ON/Belle River) and catcher Lauryn Schram (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph's) each had two hits for St. Clair in the loss.

St. Clair College Baseball Drop to 2nd Place with Split at Durham

(Oshawa, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Men’s Baseball team surrendered 1st Place in the OCAA standings for the first time in five years with a doubleheader split at Durham College in Oshawa Sunday. St. Clair lost 2-1 in the opening game but rebounded for an 11-1 mercy shortened victory in the second game.

In the opener Saints pitcher Garik Godard (Belle River, ON/Belle River) went unrewarded for his 6 innings of work as he gave up 2 runs on 8 hits while walking 2 and striking out a pair of batters. St. Clair shortstop Kevin Dion (Newmarket, ON) became the OCAA’s all-time hit leader in the contest as part of his 2-hit day which included a double while scoring his team’s lone run. St. Clair held a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning but Durham put up a pair in the 4th to end the scoring.

St. Clair enacted quick vengeance in the second game putting up 11 hits worth of run support for starter Evan Ferguson (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph’s) who threw 6 innings while giving up only a single run on 2 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2 batters. Roberto Duncan (Panama City, Panama), Tyler Lansley (Newmarket, ON) and Kyle Gagnon (Belle River, ON/St. Anne) each had 2 hits in the game. Lansley had 3 RBI’s in a breakout performance for the rookie infielder. The Saints were ahead 7-1 going into the 6th inning and scored 4 runs to force the mercy verdict.

The Saints are 8-4 and in 2nd place behind 1st place Humber (9-3) by a game in the standings. St. Clair can make up some ground before yielding their first OCAA regular season crown as all of their 8 remaining games on their schedule will be against 0.500 or worse winning percentage teams.
