ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
University degree with a minor in a related field or a Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker or Educational Assistant Diploma.

PROGRAM GOALS
This highly specialized program has been specifically designed for individuals with education in a related field. With two credentials, graduates will be able to work as an ECE in a kindergarten environment, or as an ECE in child care settings. Those individuals interested in pursuing a career teaching in an elementary school setting will find this diploma complements a Bachelor’s of Education degree and prepares the graduate for working with children in Junior and Senior Kindergarten Elementary classrooms.

Aspiring teachers may choose the Accelerated option before applying for acceptance to a Bachelor’s of Education program. Alternatively, teacher candidates may optimize their chances of finding employment in JK/SK settings by seeking this post-degree option.

Since this is a very condensed program, students must have exceptional study and learning skills. Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL Test) is required if you were educated in a language other than English. The minimum requirement is a score of 500 on the written test and 173 on the computerized test for this program.

This program will appeal to students with a strong love for children and a highly developed work ethic. They must be tolerant and understanding, with a great deal of patience and physical stamina. Practitioners in the field of Early Childhood Education work closely not only with children, but also with families and other professionals, so excellent communication and social interaction skills are also required.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
With two credentials there are excellent employment opportunities for graduates in nursery schools, child care centres, after school programs, family resource centres, and private home programs. International opportunities exist as nannies, and providing child care on cruise ships.

FIELD PLACEMENTS
Employers who provide our field placements require a police record check for criminal offenses and a medical check before accepting a student into a field placement. The criminal reference check and medical are obtained by students before entering first semester, at their expense. The College assumes no obligation for ensuring field placement or program completion for students who are unable to provide a clear police record check.

TRANSFER AGREEMENT
Graduates are also eligible to participate in a Transfer Agreement between the Child and Youth Worker program, Developmental Service Worker, or the Educational Assistant program and take an accelerated one year program to earn their CYW, DSW or EA Diploma. Contact the program coordinator for details.

DEGREE COMPLETION:
There are articulation agreements with the University of Windsor, Ryerson, Carleton, Brock and Griffith University. Contact the Program Coordinator for details.
